Bunny ears

Bunny ear hair accessories

I like to stitch things. Especially felt. There is something very satisfying about it. Probably that for the most part the projects I make with felt should in theory be quick turn around projects so I should feel like I have achieved. This is the latest of these kinds of projects. The kids have, in the past, had the big bunny ears on head bands that seem to flood all the shops in time for Easter. I decided to make them some that were a little more understated.

Bunny ears on hair combs

I had in my mind what I wanted to make and hoped it would work out. I printed off a bunny outline from a kids colouring page and cut it out. I folded up the face of the bunny and used it as a pattern for all the felt. After I stitched it all together, I sewed the ears onto hair combs. It was fiddly but satisfying :-) I think maybe they might have worked better if I had sewn them on the other way around. I'll know that for next time I decide to make this kind of thing.

The kids have been wearing them around in the lead up to Easter. I have been tempted to make some for me. Maybe not. I will just stick with last year's hair accessories. I will have to try to get a photo of those up. Have a great day.

Lady bug hair clip

Lady bug hair clip

Yes. I am still here. Been under the weather again. So have the kids. I thought I would just pop in to the neglected Crisis and show you something that I actually managed to make last month. Are you impressed? I love to make hair stuff because (in theory) it should be quick to see a result. Do you recognise my inspiration? I used Amelia's 3rd birthday cake inspiration for the hair clip too.

I have been writing lists of things that I want to make for Christmas and things that I need to finish off so hopefully things will start looking a bit busier here soon. Now if I can just get rid of this rotten headache.

Has anybody started getting Christmas on the brain yet?

Buttons and hair pins

I saw this great idea over at One Crafty Mumma and decided to have a go. I have quite a reasonable collection of buttons to use for any project really. I would like to get some more interesting buttons though. Old ones and sparkly ones. I went on a trip to Echuca some time ago with my sisters-in-law and we went to a quilt shop there. They had these huge tubs full of buttons. You could buy them by the scoopful. Why didn't I that day? Anyway, here is a picture of the ones I have made.
I really quite like them. Even though I made so many I have really only worn two of them. If I was a more coordinated person who could do actual hair styles instead of simply "there it is" styles, then I might have cause to use more. I will have to work on that.

Buttons in our house have become a big deal because while Amelia has her saline treatment on the nubilser (pump) she plays with the buttons to keep her happy. Esther and Ellamay help too. They use their tea set and pour the buttons from one container to the next, stir them with spoons and make all kinds of interesting things. We end up with buttons from one end of the house to the other. Whatever works to keep Amelia on there though. So I should be able to justify getting more buttons really. Yes. I think so.

Still trying to get my felt cloud mobile finished. I am so close to being finished but I am sick of it. Amelia decided to help the other day and actually cut one of the rain drops with my embriodery scissors. One of those "NOT THE GOOD SCISSORS" moments.

Another cute bag and a hair clip

Another birthday and another one of these bags. Just like the ones I made here and here. They are so straight forward and easy to make. I really recommend them. I made a hair clip to match this time. Very cute.
More hair clips to post pictures of when I get around to it. I made Easter ones. Because I could :-)

More hair clips

I love to make hair things. Probably fairly obvious by now. :) A quick hit of something crafty and the kids get some more slightly above average hair accessories. They look really cute on too! I think some bunnies for Easter might be coming soon :)

Felt flower hair clips

I found a link on One Pretty Thing for some felt rose hair clips. One Pretty Thing is a fantastic site. I look at it every day. They have links to so many different sites on all manner of crafty topics.

There is a tutorial and pattern over here. These clips are so easy to make. I loved them. And I am still making more. I have made two in the girls school uniform colours and two just because they are cute colours. This photo doesn't really show up the colours very well unfortunately, but I really do like them. Do try them out. Nothing like wearing a flower in one's hair to make you feel pretty I think.

Head bands for first day of school

Our daughters started school today. Our house is significantly quieter today. Only Amelia around to make noise and mess. And really she has been fairly well behaved so far.

I recently decided that Esther and Ellamay needed some school hair accessories that matched their uniforms but were different so it might help everyone tell who's who. I have been really wanting to make some rosette head bands for myself but true to form, made some for my kids first.

These are from this tutorial I found. So easy. I got the headbands from The Reject Shop marked down from $3 for 3 to $1 for 3. Bargain! (I bought about 5 packs! I like to stock up when I find a bargain). They were already school colours so all I had to do was add the rosettes. The maroon flower is actually an old dress ... an attempt at re purposing. Suited perfectly.

Here is a picture of our babies. All grown up and ready to go in the front gate today. Sporting their new head bands. Amelia didn't want to miss out on the photo.

I have got more plans for school hair things, I hope to post soon. By the way, my head is much improved now, thankfully. So maybe I can get back to stitching and such.

While my head hurt...

I made these hair ties for Miss Purple (Ellamay), Miss Pink (Esther) and Miss Green (Amelia). So easy and a quick creative hit.

Happy thought: Must go and buy A LOT more self cover buttons.

'There it is' hair ribbon

I am feeling proud of myself. I have just made myself a new head band. Ain't it cute? Can you see it properly? Trust me - it's cute.

I used all these things to make it. I measured the headband I had for a general size. These are all supplies I have bought from Woolworth's and Big W. I don't get much chance for Spotlight or craft shops. I buy a lot of stuff when I am grocery shopping - you'd be surprised what you can find if you look! That Fray Stop is great stuff to put on the ends of ribbon. It's sort of like watered down glue. It soaks into the fabric and holds it together.
I hope to make some more head bands like this in different colours and make some bows on hair pins and some fabric flowers for head bands and pins. I will be doing well on my Resolutions if I can get some flowers in my hair!

I am completely uncoordinated when it comes to styling my hair, so 'there it is', are my favourite styles. As in, brush, head band - 'There it is'!
